You know that they say that you do not have a second chance to make a first impression? Well, sometimes, I wonder what people are thinking.

So ... let me share with you a funny evening ...
Every year, I like to attend at least one show of the Just for Laugh Festival in Montreal. It is straight downtown, so I arrive a bit early, walk around, take pictures, sit down and look at people; sometimes it is even funnier than the stand up comic that I have paid to see !

We have all heard of the plumber's crack, if not, just type it in Google and you will have a variety of pictures some funny, some sexy, but you will get the gist. We are often seeing in men as not so pretty and in women as kinda sexy ... but sometimes, just sometimes ... it is not! Here is my first pic: OK, you may wonder why and how I took this picture without being seen ... but that is a completely different story.

Then, there is the couple that goes out and WANTS to be looked at. They are dressed to make a statement. They know they are different, they want to be different and if you do not notice them ... they would not be happy.

This couple is SO so out of ordinary people that you cannot miss them. 

They are different but in a way you can just admire them to be so bold and sure of themselves.

At first, I took pictures of them from a distance but ... I took my courage in both hands and yes ... walked to them ... Believe me not ... they were VERY happy that I wanted to talk about them here!

When I thought I had seen it all for one night, I grabbed a bite and headed for the show.

... and I still do not understand why a grown up man who has some sort of success in his career (in show business) would agree to go on stage in underwear the size of a Speedo !

A while back, I had read an article talking about the difference on how men and women were looking at their nails ... different perspective ...  have tried to find back that article on the internet and have only found reference to it on Crossdressers website, so I gave finding it, you will have to believe me.

SO, what is your answer?

Apparently that would be the way women look at their hands (nails)

... and that would be the way men are looking at theirs.

It may just be an urban myth, but whenever I have done the test ... it never fails.
However, as in every rule there are exceptions ... and I had the idea on doing today's topic when I saw JJP's picture on Madame Magasine ... and my exceptional friend just made an exception to this "myth/rule" ...

Just when I thought that nothing could be made smaller than an IBIS bedroom, life's proved me wrong!

I was staying one night in Horgen, CH and upon recommendations, stayed at the Hotel Meierhof.

Here is a snapshot of my room:

Do not get me wrong this hotel was perfect! There are rooms that are bigger but I was there for one night after not having slept for 24 hours, I could have slept anywhere.

It is in the middle of the town, right across from the train station, has a great breakfast/drink lounge on the top floor with a superb view of the Lake Zurich. That was my first night stop after visiting Zurich and Rapperswill-Jona.

I had decided to swing by there to see the oldest wooden bridge in Switzerland. The prehistoric timber piles discovered to the west of the Seedamm date back to 1523 BC. The first wooden footbridge led across Lake Zürich, followed by several reconstructions at least until late 2nd century AD. when the Roman Empire built a 6 meters (20 ft.) wide wooden bridge. Between 1358 and 1360, Rudolf IV, Duke of Austria, built a 'new' wooden bridge across the lake that has been used to 1878 – measuring approximately 1,450 meters (4,760 ft.) in length and 4 meters (13 ft.) wide. On April 6, 2001, the reconstructed wooden footbridge was opened, being the longest wooden bridge in Switzerland.

While walking through town, I came by a restaurant that had the greatest idea I have ever seen to dine outdoors when it is raining. For people from Montreal, maybe we could use the idea for the Olympic Stadium ... just kidding! 

Look at that, it is a big plastic funnel! the borders are attached to the edge of the nearby walls that are enclosing the courtyard to go down to a manhole. I am not sure where the water goes (it could well reused to water the rose garden!) Anyway, I thought it was a good idea, you can even see the sky and when it is sunny, each table had a big sun umbrella.

This town was so tranquil, so serene. Maybe a 7-hour flight, followed by a fast visit in Zurich, when I've arrived there I was in need of some peaceful time. You can sit on benches near by the lake and just watch time passing by. Nothing moves too quickly.

So what is it with Trader Joe's? I am not exactly sure why, but I love this store. It is one of the things that I am missing from living in the States. There are some in Mass, but none close to the borders, say in Vermont or upper state New York.

Trader Joe's started in 1967, It's 356 stores and counting, half of them in California with the majority in Southern California. Trader Joe's promises that anything with a "Trader Joe's" logo contains no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives, contains no MSG or trans fats, and is sourced from non-genetically modified ingredients.

It is a grocery store but not a mega store. Instead of gazillion of items (a regular grocery store may have 50 000 items), TJ has about 4 000 of them and about 80% being TJ brand. They cut the middle man making it possible to lower prices.

Things that I like at TJ, the Olive Tapenade, the Ginger Spread (great for cooking or spreading), nuts, cheeses, some wines (from California or New world) ...

... and to stay in the "weird" mood ... the crew wearing ... Hawaiian shirts !!! That's bold!

Story of the Flying Bear

I read

Two people were killed Monday after a freak series of collisions sent a 300-pound bear rocketing through their SUV on a rural road in Quebec. The driver of the SUV, a 25-year-old Gatineau woman, and a passenger, a 40-year-old Ottawa man, died on impact. A second passenger, the driver’s boyfriend, was sent to hospital with minor injuries.

A young bear had shuffled onto Highway 148 about 50 kilometers northwest of Ottawa when it was hit by an eastbound car. The car, a Pontiac Sunfire, flipped the bear into the air on impact and into the path of a Nissan Pathfinder in the opposing westbound lane.

Coming down, it (the bear) hit the windshield at a certain angle and went right through, hit the driver, hit the passenger sitting behind her and went through the back window.

What? Can you believe how unlucky you have to be ! I have heard of people dying while the car hit a moose, but a bear ??? For me it is a first.

It is not all that unusual to see bear crossing back in the country (where there is bear I mean ... but for non-Canadians, seeing a bear does not happen everyday, it's like igloos and Native Indians in traditional gear ... not everyday).

OK, stop laughing now. Believe me, I have heard the weirdest comments from Europeans ... well, I should specify by French people, it can be insulting for others to put them all in the same boat. OK OK let's say Parisian ! It is incredible but I sometimes I really wonder ...

How many heard about the big spaces, the Native Indians, the Igloos ... they have NO concepts on distance. They come to visit for a week, ok let's say 10 days, and they expect to see:

1. Rocher Percé in Gaspésie
2. Lac St-Jean
3. Québec City
4. Montréal
5. Niagara Falls
6. The Rockies, Banff AB let's say ...

... if there is still time, Vancouver would also be nice to see and maybe they will swing by Boston or New York City if they can stretch it! (yes you can click on each above link to be directed to Tourist site)

Just thinking about it, it tires me ! Just in case it still has eluded some of you, France can fit 2,8 times in the Province of Quebec ! There are 4 634 km between Percé and Banff Alberta, that's 2 days and 13 hours of driving 24 hrs a day !!! Hellooooooooooooooooooooo ... you will have to make more than one trip to see everything.

Although, 2 of my weird friends have asked me to bring them one on my next trip!!

Yes I DO HAVE weird friends ... what can I say, I've lived long enough in California for that ... and that does not count the ones in NJ ... not to say that the ones in Montreal are not far behind. LOL
